Progress Leader Letters Oppose Council

The following comment appeared on our blog. We repeat it here for the benefit of a wider readership:

Today's Progress Leader, the local Murdoch giveaway in Boroondara, has two letters to the editor relating to the VEC Representation Review.

Neither letter supports any particular voting system, but both are critical of the Boroondara Council.

The Council, according to the letter writers, has spent large sums of money supporting its preferred option, has not recognises any alternatives, is one sided in its propaganda, and is lobbying residents and ratepayers to make a submission for single councillor wards and even provides a template and tells them how to write it.

It seems Boroondara Council doesn't think highly about the intelligence of Boroondara residents. They clearly, in the Council's view, lack the ability to make up their own mind on this issue.

Sound reasons to support a change to proportional represntation.

Interestingly the Council doesn't think proportional representation is a consideration in the current review process. We clearly need more intelligent councillors, not party hacks for one or other of the Liberal Party factions, or in one case of a Labor Party faction. Seems all agree. Mutual self interest.

Boroondara Council thinks all its ratepayers are stupid and can't think for themselves.

Unfortunately quite a number, some in high positions like an Anglican priest and his wife, have been sucked in by the Council.

Don't fall for Council stupidity. Read this blog and the VEC web site and make up your own mind.

The Boorondara Residents Action Group has decided to support the Council in its campaign for single councillor wards. They have also removed items on their web site supporting multi-councillor wards. This group is hardly democratic.

It's Monday and no posts on this site. Don't give up Gabriele. Greater Geelong submissions are due in today. Perhaps you are working on one for there.

Correspondence in the Progress Leader today by Andrew Gunter having a spray at Mayor Coral Ross.

Why is Coral so scared? Big ratepayers money is being illegitimately spent by a corrupt Clowncil. The ratepayers are not dumb. They can see that the clowncillors only want to continue feathering their own nest. They may get a pay rise soon. They don't want to miss out so they support the system most likely to elect them.

Great letter Andrew.

Information session conducted by the VEC at Hawthorn Town Hall Mayor's Room last night attracted nine people plus two council officers plus two spokespersons from the VEC.

Where was the Mayor? Where were the Boroondara Councillors? They probably argue they don't need to attend because they know it all.

A contributor to our blog was there and he admitted he'd never been to an information session before either, so perhaps we can excuse our councillors. They had their stooge there, a lady who bagged the ALP and said PR didn't work in Yarra and she didn't want Boroondara to be taken over by the Labor Party. This lady dominated the questioning, which was meant to be about the procedures rather than pushing a particular barrow. The Mayor of Moonee Valley attended the information session in that municipality, and predictably he supported single-councillor wards. He's also been sucked in.

The Council stooge at the Boroondara information session should be aware it's the Labor Party who want single councillor wards, and the Krogerite faction of the Liberal Party want them in Boroondara so they can remove all their factional opponents in the Liberal Party from the Council. The chances of any Labor Party member being elected to to the Boroondara Council are very remote, except in the Ashburton area, where the presence of housing commission houses makes the area the most depressed part of Boroondara. Solway ward, which includes Ashburton, has an ALP councillor but there are none anywhere else in Boroondara.

The Council stooge had her facts wrong.

Red Ted is subject to a lot of criticism by Robert Doyle on the Landeryou blog tonight. The item is repeated in the comments on www.hewhostandsfornothing.blogspot.com.

This blog, correctly, shouldn't get involved in Liberal Party faction fights. The ratepayers of Boroondara should be aware the Kroger faction of the Liberal Party and the ALP both want single councillor wards. Tell them both we don't want them in Boroondara. The Krogerites should go to Stonnington. The ALP should go to Richmond. Leave Boroondara to Red Ted.

Andrea Coote, one of our local upper house MPs, is in on the act. Andrea supports the Boroondara Clowncil's campaign for single councillor wards.

Andrea is a member of the Kroger faction in the Liberal Party, the same factions that wants single member wards in Boroondara so it can use its energy to remove all of Red Ted Baillieu's supporters on the Clowncil should the VEC adopt the continuance of single councillor wards come this November.

Which Kroger faction ally in Boroondara put Andrea up to writing her submission?

No need to talk like Lawrence Money. They are Councillors, not Clowncillors.

We want some dignity on this blog.

Boroondara Council are a fraudulent employer. With their pay slips last week employees were given a leaflet asking them to make a submission to the VEC representation review. The implication is that their jobs are on the line if the VEC doesn't recommend to the Minister the current ten single councillor ward structure.

Boroondara Council should not bully employees. If Yarra Council, say (if it was an ALP Council but at the moment thank God it isn't) were to ask employees to hand out party political propaganda for the ALP and employees were given the impression their jobs were on the line if they didn't imagine the outcry from the good burghers of Boroondara.

Local Government Minister Dick Wynne should sack the Boroondara Council. Their performance is a disgrace.
